Club History
1.1 Kemsing Lawn Tennis Club (KLTC) was started by the local Women’s Institute (WI) in 1920. It has therefore recently celebrated eighty years of existence. With the aid of the LTA’s Club Vision initiative, it hopes to celebrate many more successful years serving the local community, both adults and in particular Juniors.
1.2 The local WI was the seventh to be started in the UK. It was started by the initiative of Sir Mark Collett of St Clere’s, the main local mansion, who invited one of the Founders of the founders of the movement to stay. Sir Mark subsequently became the first Chairman of the Club and Committee meetings were held in the butler’s pantry! Sir Mark became a major village benefactor and donated the land on which the club stands in perpetuity. The main Pavilion next to the club bears his name.
1.3 From an initial one Court, the Club now has four hard courts, all floodlit, the most of any local club. It also has the use of a further two adjacent courts, recently re-surfaced, managed by the Kemsing Sports Association (KSA).
