Morning everyone! Last Sunday, the Mens II match was washed away, but Ladies III played a rearranged match at Kings Hill on Tuesday night. They won, 3-1, and for those that are interested, Auntie Rita tells me that Kings Hill provides a very good tea and that their prawn sandwiches are truly scrumptious! A small group of players went to the Tandoori Nights in Seal during the week, to bid a sad farewell to Anne, who is shortly to leave these shores for the palm-fringed beaches of the Caribbean. (That’s why it was a sad farewell … the fact that she is leaving us here shivering in the rain!) Anne has done sterling work on the Committee, and we shall miss her. Anyway, whilst drowning our sorrows with a Cobra or three, we took part in a charity raffle, and although my recollection of events is somewhat hazy, Des won the top prize which was either a lapdance or a laptop computer! Lucky Old Des! This weekend saw Mixed II drown (and lose!) on Saturday, but Mens II and Ladies II were both victorious yesterday. Ladies II have now won their half of the division, and so are promoted, with a final match against the winners of the other half of the division to be played in September. Well done, Ladies II… and good luck in the playoff final! Sunday afternoon saw the sun come out and we had a superb Junior tournament. Special mention goes to Christopher Pruce and Ben Sherwen who had a great semi-final, with Ben Hafford the eventual winner of the younger age group. And Harry just pipped Sam in an exciting final for the older group. But forget the winners for a moment, I thought that all the children did really well and had a great attitude to the game, and I hope that they all enjoyed it as much as Des and I did. Tonight it is the second of the grandly named “assessment evenings”, so if you would like to be considered for a team please come along, bringing a fiver if you wish to benefit from some words of wisdom from “Dan Dan, the Malteser Man”. Wednesday pay and play continues, as does Friday junior coaching… The LTA have e-mailed to say that if you are due a refund for inclement weather on your Wimbledon tickets that you obtained through the Club, please don’t contact the LTA direct… your Club will eventually receive a repayment. And the LTA would also like to remind everyone that there is no roof on Centre Court this year, so please take plenty of sun block with you….! Next weekend sees Ladies III and Mixed II home and away on Saturday, with Mixed I competing whilst the Tour de France whizzes almost past them, at home on Sunday morning. Whatever the weather, enjoy your tennis! Howard |
